Deposit Guidelines
Who may deposit:
- Faculty:
- Through formal channels such as the UMUC Working Papers series administered by the Graduate School, Orkand Chair-sponsored events or contests, and/or the Undergraduate or Graduate School sponsored processes or events.
- Through open deposit for general collection of items created as an employee of UMUC. Submit items to digitalrepository@umuc.edu. Please include your full name, business title, what classes you teach or department you teach for, the division that you teach for (Stateside, Europe, or Asia), and complete contact information (address, e-mail, phone number(s)). Also attach the completed Digital Repository License. Each co-author must complete and return the license.
- Staff: Through open deposit for general collection of items created as an employee of UMUC. Submit items to digitalrepository@umuc.edu. Please include your full name, business title, the department that you work for, the division you work for (Stateside, Europe, or Asia), and complete contact information (address, e-mail, phone number(s)). Also attach the completed Digital Repository License. Each co-author must complete and return the license.
- Students: Through formal channels only. Work must be vetted by faculty/administration (DM dissertations, best paper contests, the Undergraduate or Graduate School sponsored processes or events, etc.).
- External Presenters or authors: Through official channels (i.e., invited to give a presentation or write a paper for UMUC, etc.), or as co-authors/collaborators when one author is affiliated with UMUC.
Submission criteria:
- Works of research and scholarship such as:
- Published material: journal articles for which copyright or author's rights to post in an institutional repository are retained
- Unpublished material: unpublished papers, working papers, articles, or pre-prints of articles to be submitted for formal publication
- Presentations: papers, slides, poster sessions, or similar materials presented at professional/academic conferences
- Completeness: Must be complete works that are able to stand on their own (not fragments, notes, or rough drafts)
- Working papers: Working papers or discussion papers for distribution to and comment from an academic community of interest should be drafts that are complete, edited by the author, and ready for public display as representative of the author's academic/professional work
- Preprints: Preprints of articles should be "publication quality" in the sense that they are edited by the author, complete, and polished enough to be submitted to a publisher
- Rights: Author(s) must be able to assign rights to UMUC or have permission from the copyright holder to do so (such as a release to post the material in an institutional repository from a publisher), and be able to agree to and sign the Digital Repository License
- What is not appropriate: Course-related materials that are created specifically for delivery within UMUC courses, such as syllabi, course notes, presentations, learning objects, are generally not appropriate for deposit
